The celebrated “Belga 2” — Marc Duez’s 1983 Haspengouw Rally winner.

Chassis 85A0900069 — the 69th quattro built — is the famous “Belga 2”, the Audi quattro fielded for Belgium’s Belga team and driven by Marc Duez with co-driver Willy Lux. The project was led by J. G. Mal-Voy of the Belgian Audi Club, who set out to put a Belgian driver in a quattro on the national stages; backed by the Belga cigarette brand, Audi Sport and Castrol, the car was prepared by Schmidt Motorsport and updated to A2 Group B specification, completed in its Belga colours at the end of January 1983.

In the hands of Duez — the reigning 1982 Belgian champion — it won the 1983 Lotto Haspengouw Rally outright, taking 26 of the event’s 32 stages, then finished fourth overall at the Ypres 24 Hours Rally before contesting the Hunsrück and Lucien Bianchi rallies, becoming one of the most recognisable quattros of the era. Power comes from the turbocharged 2.1-litre five-cylinder driving all four wheels; the car has since been restored by VMS Compétition to its original Belga colours and wears the unmistakable #3 Belga / Castrol / Pirelli / Cibié livery.
